I spent most of last week cleaning. Well, between crying jags and sleepless nights and having to say good-bye to the kids' teachers and school, I spent most of last week cleaning. And, while it takes me awhile to get motivated some days, I've started to love cleaning. And I do realize that most everyone who knows me thinks that I've completely lost my mind with the utterance of those words, but I do believe it's true. Either that or aliens have taken over my body. Which is completely possible considering how much our life has changed in the past month. I have a hard time processing it all most of the time and often wonder if my mind is really my own anymore.
Anyway, I spent last week cleaning because we had invited a couple of family members over for a Memorial Day barbeque. It was going to be a very small gathering. Very small. And then word started to spread and other family members asked to come and others decided to come visit the out-of-town family members at the same time. Before we knew it, we were in charge of throwing a large bash at our house. The same house that we just moved into 6 weeks ago. ACK!
Hence, the cleaning. And some of the crying jags. :p
In all honesty, I was almost dreading the day. But, it came yesterday and went off without a hitch. And, surprisingly, I had fun. A lot of fun. Which I don't usually do in such large crowds. And I'm even thinking about doing it all over again.
But, here's one of the reasons why it was fun. Don't laugh at me, okay? One of the reasons I was nervous about having people over was because I was really embarrassed by our dishes. We have hard water here and no water softener. It's on our to-do list but the not at the top of the list. The worst part is that the water is full of lime. Welcome to Indiana!
Our dishes and pots and pans looked like this until Saturday.
And then I came across a website that said to combine Lime-A-Way and vinegar for heavy duty lime removal projects.
And it worked!
I was literally dancing around the kitchen this weekend as each batch came out of the sink! It was like getting a brand new set of dishes and pots and pans! And it helped me to relax and enjoy the party just a little bit more. :)
