It's been almost a year since I was able to sit down and spend time quilting. I've been missing it terribly but didn't realize how much and why until I pulled everything out last week and started playing with fabric. October 17, 2009 was the day we started ripping apart our old house in order to renovate it and put it on the market. And, basically, I haven't done anything creative since then. Yes, I have continued to digi scrap and I love my job at DesignerDigitals but it's not the same as doing something creative with your hands. Growing up, I would never, ever have said that I was creative. But now I know that I simply cannot stay sane without spending some time alone on something creative.
And so now, I'm breathing easier, am more relaxed and even feel as though I'm settling into the house more now that I've broken out the sewing machine.
I started with a table runner for our dining room table. Our table is 100+ inches long and, therefore, standard table runners aren't nearly long enough. Emily said one day, "Mom, you can just make one." Duh. So, we ran into the local fabric store and I fell in love with this Luna Notte Moda Fabric.
I didn't have a pattern so I simply made it up. I used a natural linen/cotton blend from Robert Kaufman for the back. For more information on linens, a fantastic resource is Oh, Fransson!
And as soon as I finished it, I ripped apart the entire dining room table so that I could drag out some quilt projects. :)
The first thing I did was to start a mini-quilt out of the rest of the Moda fabric.
And then I pulled out a quilt I've had in the works for over a year for Libby's trundle bed.
The pattern is called a Wonky Log Cabin quilt and was one of the quilts in the Old Red Barn Quilt-Along. You can follow the link on the right sidebar for more info on the quilts from the Quilt-Along.
And a peek at the back of it.
I'm putting the binding on tonight and should have pictures in the next couple of days.
In the meantime, I'm a much happier and relaxed Momma. :)
