Week 4 of Project Life is done! Earlier this week, I really struggled with how I wanted these pages to look because last week, I used a Design F page protector for the right side of my layout. I love that design and it works beautifully for me since so many of my photos are smaller, vertical photos taken with my iPhone.
The dilemma comes when you flip the page and that Design F is now the first page (the left side) on the next week. My biggest dilemma was where to put my weekly card since I couldn't put it where I normally did - in the top left corner. I suggested two different ideas on my blog - one with a split card here and then the other with a different placement here - and got lots of feedback. Thank you!!!
In the end, it was an easy decision. I loved the whole card - splitting it didn't work for me. Even though this needs to be an easy project and simple designs, I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep at night with that card split in half. (Unfortunately, I'm not kidding - those kinds of stupid little things keep me up at night. As does the amount of dog hair in my house, whether to re-organize my closet or Andrew's room first, and where to find time to paint the basement. But I digress and that's another post.)
So, I simply moved the card over the top right. And I changed the color from a tan to a red - I simply switched out the digital papers from this kit.

I know the placement of a silly card doesn't matter - my kids love this project so much and they sure don't look at the design. But, in the end, I have to be happy with it or I won't keep up with it.
So, back to this week's spread.
The first page includes a self-portrait of Libby and me while we waited for Sissy to get home, an Instagram shot of Andrew and Libby sorting Emily into a Harry Potter house on her birthday, a basket of laundry (the bane of my existence), a shot of Libby in her class (my favorite photo of the whole week), Andrew practicing his cursive, some info about Scrapbook Update, and some journaling cards.
I have two inserts again this week. The first is a 6 x 12 Page Protector and I used two of Ali Edwards' templates in here, both from Words and Photos 6 x 12 Layered Templates.
The first page is my weekly journaling with photos from Emily's birthday. My title was "This was Emily's week" because it really did feel like the whole week revolved around her: her birthday lunch, her actual birthday, induction to an honor society, and her first time taking the SAT.
The back side is all about her induction to the National Junior Honor Society and the photos we took at the ceremony.
The other insert is made from a regular 8.5x11 Page Protector. I wanted to include her honor society program and her SAT ticket.
They are both only about 6 inches wide and were floating around in the protector so I simply sewed a straight line of stitching in my protector with my sewing machine and trimmed it down to 6 x 11. Perfect fit and now the ephemera isn't floating around and falling sideways. I can see myself doing this a lot.
The back side just shows her SAT ticket from Saturday.
Page two includes photos from our Sunday morning volunteering at the food pantry, lunch out with another family to celebrate Emily's birthday, Em with one of her favorite birthday presents, Friday night fun with the same friends, and then Andrew hiding in my bathtub. Emily also journaled about our Sunday morning.
And here's the whole spread again, this time with the inserts over to the left side.
I used a bunch of digital products again this week and I'll be back later with all the links!
