We are so lucky to have a large, mostly-finished basement. We have two storage rooms that are unfinished but the rest of it is finished and is one large L-shaped space. The small part of the L is a kitchen and the long part of the L is a sewing room/family room/bedroom. And that's the problem. It's just a long room and everything's jumbled together.
This is how the basement looked until very recently. We had two twin beds at the back end, opposite my sewing area. In the middle was a loveseat, chair and the (old, old) TV and Wii. Behind me is a door to the outside and the bathroom and to the right of me is the kitchen.
This area seen in the photo is the real dilemma. How to fit all of these spaces in one long, narrow room. I don't want to divide the room because the natural light that comes into these huge windows simply makes this space. Ideally, I'd have room dividers but my goal is to avoid spending money just yet. I want to find a layout that I love before I start buying things.
So, I'm just moving things around and playing with them.
So far, this is my new view into the sewing area.
We moved the plaid chair and ottoman over where the twin beds were and moved the beds over closer to the TV area. (Actually, we switched beds but I'll come back to that in a later post.) I'm going to sew a table skirt for my cutting table that matches the wall color so it will hide all of my unsightly sewing supplies. We also brought down Andrew's armoire that he no longer wanted and put it by the sewing table. It hides a lot of fabric and supplies and makes it a lot neater. This back corner is becoming very cozy. So stay tuned....
In the meantime, sticking true to my goal of not starting anything new, I'm working on finishing Emily's old-fashioned patchwork quilt.
And I'm allowing myself to work on the wonky-star quilt that's on my design wall because it's going to be a bedspread for the new bed in the basement. Technically, it's a new project but because it's to help me finish the basement reorganization, I'm allowing it. See how I did that? ;)
I don't have much free time these days but working on the basement, this quilt and obsessing over Sherlock are keeping me happy. I am OBSESSED with this show and this actor. Actually, we all are. We livestreamed season 3 from the UK last month and have watched it over and over and over.
And if you see me using any of this fabric, yell at me! It's killing me not to cut into it but I have to have the basement finished before I'm allowed to. Sigh.
