I participated in Ali Edwards' Week in the Life project last week. I took a bunch of photos and used my iPhone 5s, Emily's Canon Rebel Xsi and my Canon 40D. My 40D is on its last legs so most of my photos were taken with Emily's camera. It's a great starter DSLR and I've really enjoyed using it this week.
What surprised me when I went through my iPhone photos was how few there were of Emily and my husband. I see them far less than I do Andrew and Elizabeth and, when I am with them, we're home so I used one of the bigger cameras. But there are still not nearly enough photos of the two of them. Something to think about, both in terms of how much time I need to spend with them and how many photos I will take of them next time I do this project.
I've pulled a few random photos off my phone for each day and will go through the other photos and work on the album later this week.
But for now, a few photos and words about them.
Monday
I drive a lot now that Andrew and Elizabeth have transferred schools and no longer have a bus. And I wanted to document my life in the car. My water bottle, purse, sunglasses, and iPhone go everywhere in the van with me.
My iPad mini, my phone, and the camera on the kitchen counter, along with a stack of ever-present books to read, and the Week in the Life journaling page.
I'm becoming more cognizant of making sure I'm in the kids' scrapbooks as time goes by.
Tuesday
Sawyer spends much of his day sleeping in the entryway. He's close to the front door in case the dry cleaning company leaves him a treat, while still close to me in the family room, and close to the dining room windows so that he can bark at anyone and everyone that dares to walk or drive by. I love this crazy puppy.
Andrew's not a fan of homework but knows that it has to get done before he is allowed to do anything else.
Tom and Emily finally got home around 8 pm and ate a late dinner in the kitchen.
Wednesday
Beth's orchestra has 57 members and, as an honors orchestra, they have to prepare pieces that are above their grade level. In order to give everyone individual time with their teacher, they break into sections and have extra practice. Her sectionals are before school on Wednesdays so she and I leave very early every Wednesday morning to get her to school an hour and fifteen minutes before school starts.
When she got home that night, she surprised us by telling us that she had been chosen as first chair for tonight's concert. I can't believe she kept it a secret!
Her concert. We had front row seats and were directly beside her.
Thursday
When I hopped in the car with the kids on Thursday morning, I realized that I was almost out of gas. And I happened to be in my jammies and slippers. So yes, I am THAT mom that stops in her jammies to get gas.
If it wasn't for Andrew, we probably wouldn't have carved pumpkins this year. But he insisted and I'm so glad he did. Not sure we'll do it ever again. It was sad enough that Emily wasn't even home nor did she want to carve. Time keeps going by...
I still bought three pumpkins and put hers out on the step with the others. Can you guess which one is Beth's?
Friday
We host a Halloween party for Tom's family every year so that the cousins can trick-or-treat together and this was the small gang we had this year. The girls and another cousin stayed home. Andrew and the boys still went out, though.
My sister-in-law brought drinks. I've never had this tequila before and it was excellent!
The adults had either margaritas or single-malt scotch and played Trivial Pursuit.
Saturday
This time, I jumped into Tom's car because Emily had mine only find that he was out of gas, too. At least the gas prices were low! Cheapest I've seen in years.
Beth has been wanting a haircut for weeks and we finally had time to do it today. LOVE it.
Andrew and Sawyer watching the University of Texas game on Saturday night. Snuggles, hugs, and a blanket I made.
Sunday
Sunrise over the house in our backyard while Sawyer enjoyed the leftover snow and ice.
And then sunshine all day long.
My third trip to the grocery store this week. It hit me as I walked back to the van that this won't be my van for much longer. It's almost 13 years old and, instead of buying Emily a car, we're giving her the van and buying me a new one. It won't be much longer before this isn't my car.
