Winter found us very early this year. We had our first snowfall on Halloween and I kind of blew it off. It was early but we've had snow on Halloween before and then nothing until after Christmas.
I should have heeded nature's warning.
Two weeks later and we had a couple of inches fall one day. And then it started snowing a little every day and it just hasn't stopped. We easily have 8 - 10 inches on the ground now with temps in the low teens and wind chills of -10. CRAZY for mid-November.
My kids are thrilled. Seriously THRILLED in all caps. They're looking at it as an early start to the Christmas season and there is Christmas music playing most of the time somewhere in the house. And I will admit that it's infectious.
But I think the happiest member of the family is Sawyer. Instead of asking to go out only 3-4 times a day, he now spends hours outside in the snow. He sometimes goes down the stairs and plays in the backyard but most often, especially when the snow is falling, he simply lies down at the top of the stairs and just observes.
Watching him just BE and observe and enjoy the weather is even more infectious than the Christmas music the kids are playing.
So I'm taking my cues from him and instead of complaining and worrying about all the holiday to-do and to-buy lists, I'm just going to take it slow and observe and enjoy.
Let it snow!
